Sports Broadcast Journalist

Chris’s route into broadcasting was far from conventional. After studying French and Chinese at university, he had a successful career in international training and development which ended unexpectedly in redundancy. A disappointment, but also an opportunity.

In 2000, he won a place on the Postgraduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism at the prestigious London College of Printing. Within a year he was presenting sports news on BBC radio, first on the World Service, then 5 Live and finally on the Today programme on Radio 4.

After several years reporting on different sports and news stories, Chris moved into commentary, focusing on athletics and tennis. He is part of the commentary team for the Diamond League with Steve Cram and Tim Hutchings and also covers big city marathons including London, New York, Berlin, Paris and Amsterdam. In 2011 he made a documentary for Radio 4 on whether the world would ever see a marathon run in under 2 hours. In October 2019 it did - and Chris was there to describe it.

In tennis Chris is a member of the ATP Media commentary team, covering the men’s tour events worldwide. He also commentates on all four Grand Slams, including every Wimbledon since 2002.
